SERVICE HISTORY: Since owning the car all service was performed at Bridgeport BMW in Connecticut with the head mechanic doing most of the work. He's also E34 M5 owner. I've been fanatical about this car, replacing many components even thought the dealership tried to convince me it wasn't necessary. The car is in great condition, super reliable, and needs nothing as far a I know.
Recent service includes; (over $8k in the last 12 months, all OEM components);
* new fuel pump
* front struts/shocks
* rear self leveling struts/shocks
* most steering components replaced and 4 wheel alignment
* replaced head gasket around 98k miles. There was small oil leak that took 2 days just to track down. The work was done at the dealership and they clocked over 30 hours in labor for the job.
* complete engine tune-up, belts, plugs, distributor, cables, hoses, vacuum lines, filters, etc
* valves adjusted
* induction (air flow) actuator
* had body shop repair loose driver's door-brake (common problem on e34s)
* micro filter, hood/trunk struts
I added a set of BMW staggered Throwing Star rims and mounted Bridgestone Potenza RE750 tires, 234/45WR17 & 255/40WR17. The rims were used and cost $1500. Also installed the Comforti chip and a BMW 6 disk CD changer in the trunk since the car was pre-wired for one. The original turbine wheels are in decent shape and included in the sale. The interior is excellent with only minor leather wear visible on the seat bolsters, shifter, and brake handle. Last October I switched to Mobil 1 (synthetic). After 5000 miles the oil level is down less than 1/2 quart. There are no fluid leaks of any kind.
I never met previous owner. The dealership said he had the clutch and water pump replaced at 82k. He also choose to have the entire car painted after someone "dinged" one of the passenger doors claiming he didn't want to have the paint mis-matched. I don't know which door it was or the severity. The paint work is first rate (BMW Calypso Red OEM paint) and looks awesome. The car was originally sold at JMK BMW (NJ). The build date is 1991/05. Carfax is clean.
